ILEAP Accreditation

The Bloomington Police Department is proud to be accredited by the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP). First accredited in 2019 and successfully re-accredited since, this recognition confirms that the department meets the Tier I standards of professional policing in Illinois.

ILEAP accreditation requires agencies to demonstrate compliance with 69 professional standards covering four key areas:

  • Administration – sound management and accountability practices

  • Operations – effective delivery of law enforcement services

  • Personnel – fair and professional policies for staff

  • Training – ongoing development to maintain high levels of performance

Only about five percent of law enforcement agencies in Illinois have earned ILEAP accreditation, placing Bloomington among a select group of departments committed to professionalism, transparency, and community trust.

Why Accreditation Matters

Being an accredited police department means more than just meeting standards on paper, it’s about showing our community that we hold ourselves to the highest level of professionalism. Some of the key benefits include:

  • Building Trust – Independent reviewers confirm that we follow fair and transparent practices.

  • Keeping You Safe – Clear policies and training help us respond effectively and reduce risks.

  • Professional Officers – Accreditation requires ongoing training so our team is always learning and improving.

  • Strong Operations – Standards make sure everything from administration to daily patrols runs smoothly.

  • Continuous Improvement – Regular reviews push us to keep getting better and meet the needs of our community.

Only a small number of police departments in Illinois are accredited, and we’re proud to be among them.
