On 02/25/2025, Bloomington Police Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Arcadia Drive for a report of an armed subject who had threatened a civilian with a gun.

Officers located the armed subject and attempted to de-escalate the situation for more than ten minutes. During the encounter, the subject refused to comply with officers' commands, became increasingly agitated, and made several threats to shoot officers. Ultimately, the subject raised and pointed the weapon towards officers. Officers fired their duty weapons and the armed subject was struck. Life saving measures were attempted at the scene. The subject, a 15-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the McLean County Coroner's Office.

It was later determined, the weapon removed from the subject was a Sig Sauer, model P365, Semi-automatic air pistol. This weapon is a 1:1 scale replica of the actual 9mm P365 firearm produced by Sig Sauer. (Images of the recovered weapon are included in the document below.)

Immediately following the incident, the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation was contacted to conduct an independent investigation regarding the use of deadly force, per Illinois law. Involved officers were placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.

On 03/25/2025, the McLean County State's Attorneys Office released a preliminary report on the investigation. The Illinois State Police provided the Bloomington Police Department with the preliminary report which concluded, "...the course of conduct in which the officers engaged was justified, reasonable, and necessary to protect the public and themselves from great bodily harm."
