Patrol Officers are the foundation of the Bloomington Police Department and serve as the most visible connection between the department and the community. Officers work around the clock, covering three shifts: 7:00 a.m.ā3:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m.ā11:00 p.m., and 11:00 p.m.ā7:00 a.m. This ensures that police service is available to residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Officers are frequently assigned to a specific area of the city, allowing them to become familiar with neighborhoods, businesses, and residents. While officers patrol solo in their own squad cars, they are also paired with an area partner who responds with them to high-priority calls, ensuring safety and effective teamwork.
Patrol Officers are responsible for responding to emergencies, investigating crimes, enforcing traffic laws, and engaging with the community to solve problems and improve safety. Their presence helps deter crime, build trust, and provide immediate assistance whenever it is needed.
