School Resource Officer (SRO) Program
The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is designed to foster positive relationships between law enforcement and students, ensuring a safe and supportive environment within schools. Our dedicated SROs serve as both law enforcement officers and trusted mentors, working proactively to prevent crime, address safety concerns, and promote a culture of respect and responsibility among students, staff, and families.
Current SRO's
Officer Wagehoft is assigned to Evans Junior High School. He has been an officer since 2001. He previously served in the Patrol Division, as a field training officer, on our SWAT team, Accident Reconstruction Team, and Honor Guard. He has been an SRO for 14 years.
Officer Day is assigned to Bloomington High School. He has been an officer since 2002. He has served on our Crisis Negotiation Unit, Patrol Division, as a Defensive Tactics Instructor and Active Assailant Instructor. He has been an SRO since 2015.
Officer "Mac" McGonigle serves several area schools. He has been an officer for 23 years. He has served on our Crisis Negotiation Unit, in the Patrol Division, and as a Field Training Officer. He has been an SRO for 5 years.
Officer "Nik" Jones is assigned to Bloomington Junior High School. He has been an officer for nearly 20 years. He has served on our Crisis Negotiation Unit, Street Crimes Unit, Patrol Division, Honor Guard, and as a Field Training Officer. He also served on the McLean County Recovery Court Team. He has been an SRO since 2023.
SRO Summer Academy
In 2023, the Bloomington Police Department hosted the inaugural School Resource Officer Summer Academy. Students from area schools were selected by school staff and administrators to participate in this program. Throughout the week, students participate in group discussions about leadership and violence prevention. There are segments on physical fitness, life skills, various field trips, and keynote speakers.
