Overview

In 1983, BPD and four other agencies formed Task Force 6 to combat illegal narcotics trafficking in the area. BPD currently has inspectors assigned to this unit. This task force is comprised of several area law enforcement partners and is overseen by the Illinois State Police.

Task Forces partner with the Statewide Terrorism Intelligence Center (STIC) and counterdrug analysts, as well as the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United States Marshals Service (USMS), and other agencies, to reduce crime through intelligence-led policing, which focuses enforcement efforts on high level drug distribution and trafficking.

These units also partner with community groups, health organizations, and local stakeholders to address and prevent substance use disorder, which is affecting communities throughout Illinois, and provide support for victims of human trafficking.
